Susan & Kevin Wall

Knowing what a special place Wilton was, Art Wall decided it would be a perfect spot to live and raise his family. He joined IBM upon his graduation from Brown University in 1962 where he worked until the time of his passing. After moving his family a number of times, in 1981 he settled in Wilton and started a long journey of involvement in the community. He jointly owned Wallflowers Florist & Gift Shop with his wife Sue and took an active role in many civic organizations including Parks & Recreation, Chamber of Commerce, Football & Lacrosse Booster Clubs, Wilton Sports Council. Art also co-chaired Wilton’s first class project – Project ’88 – a program to provide a safe and entertaining graduation night for W.H.S. seniors. This event continues to be a highlight of the graduating class each year.

Of all his civic activities, the one that he enjoyed the most was his long participation on Wilton’s Parks & Recreation Committee where he worked tirelessly for Wilton’s citizens. One of his most significant achievements was bringing back the Annual Wilton 4th of July Fireworks after they were cut from the budget in 1992. Art and his team devised a plan to not only fund the fireworks but also expand the celebration to a daylong celebration enjoyed by all Wiltonians and the surrounding community….another tradition which continues to this day.

After the untimely passing of Art Wall in 1999, family and friends established the Arthur J. Wall Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor a truly special member of the Wilton community. With the initial contributions, many more generous and heartfelt donations since, and the success of our annual golf outing, an award is given each spring to a graduating male and female student athlete of Wilton High School who best exemplify the characteristics of Art and who have selflessly given back to the community. Additionally, starting in 2012, we have awarded over $76,000 to other 501 (c)(3) organizations who help Wilton and surrounding communities.

The family of the late Art Wall and the Board of Directors of the Arthur J. Wall Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund would like to thank all who have shown their generosity and support over the years.
